Wesley Gundler Delivers at the USF2000 Level
In his debut at the USF2000 level, Wesley Gundler qualified P12 and brought home a top-ten finish at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix — proving the Apex development model is exactly on track.
The Milestone
This wasn't just another race weekend. St. Petersburg marked Wesley Gundler's first-ever start in the USF2000 series, a significant milestone in the Apex Resource Center's driver development model. Through a full year of coaching with Trish Johnson, Wesley earned the #1 driver seat at Enve Motorsports, one of the top programs on the IndyCar ladder. That placement alone signals that the work Apex has been doing is hitting its mark.
Then came the weekend itself. Wesley qualified P12 in a competitive field, then delivered a P10 finish in Race One — a top-ten result in his debut at this level. Race Two brought P11. Clean. Consistent. Smart racing from start to finish.
THE CHALLENGE
To fully appreciate those results, you have to understand what Wesley was up against. St. Pete's street circuit is unforgiving — tight walls, minimal runoff, and grip levels that punish the unprepared. The streets claimed car after car over the weekend. Wesley, meanwhile, stayed confident and held his own.
Critically, this was his first time ever piloting a winged car in a race environment. The aerodynamic demands of a USF2000 machine are fundamentally different from anything drivers face on the way up the ladder. Wesley adapted, learned, and executed. That kind of composure doesn't happen by accident — it's the product of deliberate, methodical preparation with Trish and the ENVE team.
BEYOND THE RACE
While Wesley was putting in clean laps on track, the Apex team was equally busy off it. Trish and the team held meaningful conversations throughout the weekend with prospective drivers interested in the Apex development pathway, as well as potential sponsors and investors exploring what Apex is building. St. Pete was as much a business weekend as a race weekend, and both delivered.
The Apex model is about more than developing fast drivers. It's about creating a sustainable, professional pathway up the IndyCar Series ladder — one that attracts the right people, partners, and resources at every stage. USF Pro Championships bills itself as "where tomorrow's stars race today." This weekend, Wesley Gundler made that more than a tagline.
